Recovered loot: EFCC hands over N387m to Jigawa govt

From Sola Ojo, Abuja

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday returned N387.4 million recovered from fraud suspects to the Jigawa State Government.

The funds were handed over on Tuesday at the commission’s Kano Zonal Directorate to the state’s Director of Treasury Operations, Muhammad Haruna, following the conclusion of investigations into alleged misappropriation.

The recovery was traced to intelligence provided by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), which flagged suspicious transactions linked to two suspects, Abdullahi Garba and Ayuba Sani.

Spokesman for the commission, Dele Oyewale, said operatives subsequently launched a probe that led to the recovery of the full amount.

While Garba has been convicted and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment after pleading guilty, Sani is still standing trial.

Speaking during the handover, Acting Zonal Director of the Kano Directorate, Friday S. Ebelo, said the move underscored the agency’s resolve to ensure that stolen public funds are recovered and returned for developmental purposes.

In response, the Jigawa State Government commended the EFCC for its professionalism, noting that the recovered funds would ultimately benefit the people of the state.
