The reasons Nigeria’s Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun was dropped from the Europa League squad of Scottish giant Glasgow Rangers have been revealed, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The club boss Michael Beale has named his squad for the Europa League group stages and the size of his first team means he’s had to leave out some big names yet again.

Rangers lacked the required amount of homegrown players in their squad to name a full 25-man list, with eight of those required to be either club-trained or nation-trained. At least four had to have come through the academy at Rangers and only backup goalkeepers Robby McCrorie and Kieran Wright qualify for that.

John Souttar, Ryan Jack and Scott Wright all count as a nation but King and Devine miss out – Ridvan Yilmaz and Leon Balogun were sacrificed.

Balogun returned to Rangers this summer following the expiration of his contract with the English championship side Queens Park Rangers.
