… Haaland could be Plan B
Real Madrid plan to go all out for Kylian Mbappe in the summer of 2024 and if they fail in their pursuit, only then will they think of Erling Haaland, according to journalist Romain Molina.
“Florentino Perez wants a big name No. 9 next year,” he said on his YouTube channel.
“Real Madrid want to go all out for Kylian Mbappe in 2024. Haaland could be plan B.”
Mbappe will have the opportunity to depart Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer once his contract reaches its conclusion at the end of the current season.
The club had initially been determined to avert this scenario, but recent reports suggest that their stance has become more flexible.
This shift in attitude follows the striker’s decision to relinquish approximately €100 million in loyalty bonuses that would have otherwise been owed to him.
Mbappe appeared destined to make the switch to Real Madrid back in 2022, but a surprising change of heart led him to ink a fresh contract with PSG instead.
However, the Frenchman signed only a two-year contract until 2024 with an optional third year and now he does not intend to carry on until 2025, making him available for free next summer.
While Real Madrid has categorically denied any negotiations with the Frenchman, it has appeared that the club is still keeping a close eye on the development.
The only thing that could prevent Mbappe from joining Real Madrid in 2024 is PSG’s result in the UEFA Champions League.
In May 2022, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi made a commitment to the Frenchman, pledging to surround Mbappe with a formidable team that consistently aim for Champions League glory.
However, following a disappointing initial year of his contract, the second year, now under Luis Enrique, offers the promise of a fresh start and the potential for positive change.
And if that happens, Madrid will take advantage of the clause that is there in Haaland’s contract which would allow them to sign him for a fee between €180 and €200 million in 2024.
