Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham inspired Real Madrid to a 2-1 victory over bitter rivals Barcelona in Sunday’s dramatic El Clasico encounter.
In a match that had everything in it: goals, VAR controversy, and a scuffle in stoppage time, Real Madrid managed to overcome last year’s demons for the win.
French dynamo Mbappe found the back of the net in the 12th minute, but the goal was disallowed via VAR decision. However, his efforts paid off when he gave Madrid the lead in the 21st minute.
Things became level when Fermin Lopez converted a brilliant cross from Marcus Rashford, sending the ball past Thibaut Courtois to make the score 1-1 five minutes before half-time.
Bellingham gave his team the lead again in the 43rd minute with a timely tap that ended up in Barcelona’s net.
Despite winning a penalty in the second half, Mbappe failed to convert from the spot. In the end, Madrid gained all three points, holding on following 9 minutes of extra time in the second half.
