The Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi as Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), describing him as a man of integrity, competence and proven capacity.
The commendation came during a media and security engagement organised as part of activities marking RATTAWU’s roadmap to its 50th anniversary celebration.
At the event, Ajayi was conferred with the Golden Era Pillar of Critical and Strategic Intelligence for National Development Award, an initiative created to recognise individuals and institutions that have made outstanding contributions to national development, security, democracy and culture in Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, RATTAWU President, Comrade Emeka Kalu, praised Tinubu’s choice of Ajayi to head the country’s foremost domestic intelligence agency, describing him as a silent achiever and a detribalised Nigerian whose commitment to national service rises above ethnic, religious and political considerations.
Kalu said the appointment underscored the importance of placing capable and principled Nigerians in strategic positions of national responsibility.
He noted that the DSS’s work in safeguarding national interests and gathering intelligence remains critical at a time when Nigeria faces complex security and technological challenges.
Kalu also outlined RATTAWU’s own role in national development, saying the union would continue using its platforms across radio, television, theatre and the arts to promote peace, unity and responsible communication, particularly ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
He called for stronger collaboration between security agencies, the media, creative professionals and organised labour to build a more cohesive Nigeria.
Responding, Ajayi thanked RATTAWU for the recognition, calling it a significant gesture that would spur him and the Service to remain committed to their national responsibilities.
He urged the union to continue upholding values that promote cohesion, tolerance, peace and unity, and pledged his availability for continued engagement and partnership between the DSS and RATTAWU to strengthen institutional cooperation.
