Galatasaray winger Rafael Leão has backed Barcelona star Lamine Yamal to win the Ballon d’Or and lift major trophies with the Spanish giants, describing the teenager as one of the best players in world football.
The Portuguese forward made his position known in an interview with Brazilian broadcaster TNT Sports BR on Tuesday, expressing admiration for Yamal’s ability, personality and the quality of players around him at Barcelona.
“I hope Lamine Yamal wins the Ballon d’Or and big trophies with Barça. He is among the best in the world, he’s someone I really appreciate as a player and person. He’s surrounded by good players at an extraordinary club,” Leão said.
The comments underline the growing respect Yamal commands among Europe’s leading footballers as he continues to establish himself as one of the game’s brightest young talents.
Leão also praised Yamal’s humility, describing him as a friend and highlighting the supportive environment at Barcelona.
His remarks came after Barcelona’s 4-1 victory over Galatasaray in the Champions League on Tuesday in Istanbul, a match that further drew attention to the Catalan club’s attacking quality.
At 19, Yamal has already attracted widespread attention for his performances and is regarded as one of football’s most exciting prospects. Leão’s backing adds to the expectations surrounding the Barcelona forward as he pursues individual honours and major team trophies.
