Racism row: Prestianni should never play in UCL again – Mbappe

Racism row: Prestianni in the eye of the storm

Prestianni has been accused of racially abusing Vinicius

Real Madrid striker, Kylian Mbappe has advocated banning Benfica winger, Gianluca Prestianni from ever playing in the UEFA Champions League.

Mbappe said this after his teammate Vinicius Jr was allegedly racially abused by the Argentine.

Vinicius scored the only goal in the knockout stage play-off encounter at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon on Tuesday night.

Shortly after getting a yellow card for his celebration, the Brazilian ran to referee Francois Letexier, accusing Prestianni of calling him a “monkey”.

The game was halted as the Real Madrid players walked off the pitch, before resuming 10 minutes later on the 60th-minute mark.

Speaking about the incident, Mbappe described it as “unacceptable”.

“Prestianni should never play in the Champions League again,” the Frenchman told beIN Sports.

“What I saw is very clear: number 25 said five times to Vini that you are a monkey. Everyone can have their opinion, but this kind of behaviour is unacceptable. It’s wonderful to play in the Champions League, but showing this image is terrible for world football.

“I called him racist because I think he is. He tried to hide behind his shirt, but his face doesn’t lie. This type of person is not a professional colleague. A young player cannot have the freedom to say things like this on a football field. It’s a big problem, and we’ll see what happens.”
