The Nasarawa State Police Command has made significant progress in the fight against crime, with the arrest of over 30 suspected criminals involved in organised crime.

In a press briefing held Friday at the Police Command Headquarters on Shendam Road, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, presented the achievements on behalf of the Commissioner of Police Nasarawa state command, CP Maiyaki Baba.

The first major breakthrough came from the arrest of officials of Quest International Company (QNet) following a complaint lodged by job seekers. The victims alleged that the company defrauded them of large sums of money, promising them jobs, accommodation, and bonuses.

The police detectives swung into action and apprehended the manager and six others involved in the fraudulent activities.

In another significant arrest, the police successfully apprehended a suspected kidnapper, Zakari Umar Alias Dan Wudil, who had threatened a victim and extorted a large sum of money as ransom. The investigation led to the recovery of a substantial amount of the ransom money buried in a farm. The suspect has confessed to the crime.

Furthermore, the police arrested Hamza Yusuf, who was involved in the kidnapping of a five-year-old child. The suspect confessed to conspiring with two others in the crime and revealed his involvement in a previous kidnapping where a ransom was paid for the release of the victim. Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining members of the syndicate.

The Nasarawa division of the police also made notable progress in combating armed robbery. Two suspects, Timothy James and Simon Oliver, were arrested following an attempted robbery. The police, in collaboration with a vigilante group, recovered two firearms and ammunition from the suspects.

Additionally, the anti-kidnapping unit of the police command successfully apprehended several suspects involved in different kidnapping cases. In one instance, five suspects were arrested for the abduction of an individual who was released after a ransom payment. In another operation, two suspects who had fled to other states were arrested upon their return to Nasarawa. The Police also arrested a suspect involved in a failed kidnapping attempt.

The police further cracked down on cult-related violence, arresting four individuals suspected of being involved in a clash between rival cult groups. The clash resulted in the death of one member from each group. The suspects confessed to being members of the Black Axe and Green Bottle cult groups and engaging in the clash during a festival.

Police Public Relations Officer DSP Nansel commended the efforts of the Nasarawa State Police Command in curbing criminal activities and ensuring the safety of residents. He emphasised the ongoing investigations and the commitment of the police to bring all criminals to justice.
