The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of eight Commissioners of Police to the new rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), 15 deputy commissioners of police to commissioners of police and 52 chief superintendents of police were also promoted to assistant commissioners of police (ACP).
The commission also approved the promotion of 525 superintendents of police to the rank of chief superintendents of police and 84 deputy superintendents to superintendents of police.
The Head, Press and Public Relations of PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, who made this known, said the commission approved the promotion during its first plenary presided over by the Chairman, Hashimu Argungu, which had in attendance, DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), Honourable Commissioner and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission, held in Abuja.
He said the eight Commissioners of Police and 15 Deputy Commissioners were subjected to some forms of assessment/examination, a condition which is precedent for their promotion to the new ranks.
Ani, listed the newly promoted AIGs from the rank of CPs to include Benneth Igwe of Federal Capital Territory, Command; Suleiman Mohammed Abdul, acting Assistant Inspector General of Police, PAB, Force Headquarters, Abuja; Augustina Nwuka Ogbodo of Ebonyi State Command; Stephen Olanrewaju, Admin, Works, Force Headquarters Abuja; Kenechukwu Onwuemelie of Abia State Command; Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha of Lagos State Command; Adegboyega Funsho Adegboye of Admin, FID, Abuja; and Mohammed Bala Labbo of Communication DICT Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Argungu congratulated the promoted officers on their new ranks. He also called for greater dedication to the service of their fatherland. He charged them to free the nation from all forms of insecurity.
