A faction of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) led by Abdulmajid Yakubu Daudu has objected to moves by the national leadership of the party to align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other opposition elements.

The faction accused the party’s purported National Chairman, Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed of embarking on an unholy alliance with the ADC, insisting that the nurtured relationship was unauthorised and would be challenged

Daudu, national chairman of PRP-Vanguard, affirmed that a Kaduna-based faction of the party recently conducted a “sham convention” in Abuja, producing a new leadership, which was not recognised by his faction or by the constitution of the party.

He claimed that the faction subsequently extended an open invitation to the opposition politicians to join the PRP while describing many of them as already discredited politicians.

He argued that the alignment with the ADC contradicts the ideological foundation of the PRP, saying it is a travesty of the party’s constitution and historical identity.

He declared that the PRP was established to advance the interests of the working class rather than to serve as a platform for elite actors while noting that the party was conceived as a political party of the Talakawa (masses)

While insisting that the PRP would remain a party of the ordinary class, he affirmed that Dr. Ahmed, who was not originally a member of the party, lacked the legitimacy to lead the party or to redefine its direction.

He announced that the PRP was currently in court and warned potential political defectors against associating with what he described as an illegitimate faction of the party.
