Protests: Tinubu, speech writers have justifed demonstrations — Inibehe Effiong

Popular human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has taken a swipe at President Bola Tinubu and his speech writers, saying they have justified the nationwide protests.

Daily Sun reported that Tinubu addressed Nigerians on Sunday morning amid continued demonstrations and calls for relief as citizens battle the prevailing economic crisis.

Speaking in a post via his X account regarding the President’s message, Effiong stated that the specific demands of the masses were not addressed.

He also accused the federal government of being anti-people while pointing out that great leaders make sacrifices for their country.

“Those who wrote it, and Mr Tinubu who read it out, have succeeded in justifying the reasons for the nationwide protest.

“It is appalling that despite what we have witnessed across the country in the last three days, the President did not deem it necessary to speak to the specific demands of the protesters.

“A government is only useful if it serves the interest of the governed. This government is anti-people,”, part of the post reads.

“It is not his voice that people wanted to hear; people wanted him to speak directly to their demands. His call for dialogue is in bad faith”, he added.
