Protesters in their hundreds Wednesday stormed the police force headquarters in Abuja over the ongoing crisis rocking the state House of Assembly.
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has been engulfed in the crisis with the emergence of two speakers, Daniel Ogazi and Balarabe Abdullahi.
The protesters who are mostly indigenes of Nasarawa State and members of the Concern Nasarawa Stakeholders Forum, carrying placards with various inscriptions, called on the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, to call the state Commissioner of Police, Maiyaki Muhammed Baba to order saying he has abandoned his police duties to join politics.
The group led by Daniel Ogazi and Balarabe Abdullahi, equally accused the state governor, Abdullahi Sule of attempting to set the State on fire by imposing a speaker on the state assembly through the back door.
Some of the inscriptions on their placards include “Nasarawa Assembly must be freed from bondage” “Police cannot be partisan”, “Assembly elections outside assembly complex is illegal”, “We want peace in Nasarawa State”, “Nassarawa Assembly must be freed from bondage”, Remove the CP now” among others.
The protesters who demanded to meet with the Inspector General of Police(IGP), Usman Alkali, were however prevented from gaining access to the premises.
An Assistant Commission of Police, Kingsley Emeka, who later met with the protesters appealed to them to be orderly after collecting a copy of their petition from their leaders and assured them that their messages would be properly conveyed to the IGP.
