Protesters besiege INEC headquarters, demand restoration of LP candidates in by-elections

Civil society organisations in support of the Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) besieged the National Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday.

The protesters who converged for the peaceful demonstration at about 11 am demanded the inclusion of LP’s candidates in the upcoming nationwide by-elections.

The supporters carried banners and placards with inscriptions such as: “INEC, who is using you against LP,” “Mahmood stop destroying democracy in Nigeria”, “Tell INEC to obey court orders”
