Commissioner of Police, Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), Lagos, Omodenide Ayotunde Godwin, has commended officers for applying professionalism during the nationwide protest: “The officers diligently carried out their duties during the 10-day protest that started on August 1, 2024. They applied professionalism with specific training in fields such as investigation.
“My vision for PSFU is to tackle the challenges by police investigators. It is to ensure that this unit is repositioned to continue actualise its mandate of investigating and prosecuting serious and complex cases of fraud.
“The unit is a leading professional unit that is dynamic, robust and efficient. It is dedicated in its duties of investigating and prosecuting fraud perpetrators and the recovery of proceeds of fraud.
“We teach officers modus operandi of police investigations which has changed over the years and building human capacity in training of PSFU personnel. I have reminded them of their commitment to professionalism, zero tolerance for corruption and abuse of human rights. Officers should always operate within the ambit of relevance.
“We conduct investigations excellently in PSFU. We have handled a lot of profile cases. We always have good result at the end of the day. My officers’ code of dressing will portray the image of the Nigeria Police Force and PSFU.
“The Inspector General of Police, Mr Olukayode Egbetokun, has warned officers to be disciplined, professional and respect the fundamental rights of members of the public. Officers should conduct themselves with decorum and alertness. They have to configure the security architecture in their areas of responsibility to ensure adequate security.”
Godwin advised officers to take community policing with all seriousness: “They should have good relationship with the members of the public and build confidence. They should equally be friendly in performing their duties.”
