Promasidor Nigeria is leveraging its partnership with the National Dairy Development Programme to boost local milk production, support economic growth and improve access to high-quality, affordable dairy products nationwide.
The company’s Chief Executive Officer, François Gillet, said the investment in the Ikun Dairy Farm has yielded tangible results while creating a sustainable and inclusive framework for the Nigerian dairy industry.
“As a market leader in quality food and beverage products, the national dairy development programme is a critical part of our long-term strategy to localise raw material sourcing, strengthen Nigeria’s dairy ecosystem, and ensure consistent delivery of nutritious milk products to consumers,” Gillet said.
Established in 2019 in partnership with the Ekiti State Government, the Ikun Dairy Farm began with an initial investment of US$5 million, followed by subsequent capital injections to expand operations. Today, the farm is home to over 750 high-yielding cattle, making it the largest dairy farm in Nigeria, and a cornerstone of Promasidor’s commitment to local production.
Advanced dairy management systems, including routine artificial insemination techniques, are employed to maximise heifer births and support sustainable herd growth. To secure consistent, high-quality nutrition for the herd, the farm also runs a feed security programme cultivating over 500 hectares of maize and soya beans.
Beyond milk production, Ikun Dairy Farm has become a catalyst for socio-economic development in its host community. It provides direct employment for more than 200 locals, while creating over 1,000 indirect jobs in surrounding areas, contributing significantly to wealth creation and the state economy. The farm is supported by experienced veterinary doctors and dairy-trained practitioners to ensure operational excellence.
Promasidor’s commitment to social impact extends to education through the “Ikun Milk Day” initiative, which distributes fresh milk from the farm weekly to primary school children in the Ikun Community, promoting both health and academic performance.
Gillet highlighted that Promasidor has a history of disrupting the Nigerian food and beverage industry. “Since we launched the Cowbell Milk sachet in March 1993, we have consistently pioneered innovations that strengthen local food production and nutrition,” he said.
Promasidor’s diversified portfolio, including brands like Cowbell, Loya, Miksi, Toptea, Onga, Twisco, and Kremela, reflects the company’s broader commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainable growth.
The Ikun Dairy Farm, located in Ikun-Ekiti, Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State, spans over 500 hectares and exemplifies how strategic alignment with national programmes can drive food security, job creation, and industrial development in Nigeria.
