A former Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development in Enugu State, Professor Victor Nnam, has endorsed Governor Peter Mbah’s ongoing land survey digitisation project, describing it as a game changer for the state’s land administration system.

Speaking with journalists in Enugu yesterday, Prof. Nnam, a fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, said the initiative would revolutionise land management and protect the integrity of land ownership for generations to come.

The comprehensive land survey digitisation project, being championed by the Office of the Surveyor-General, is part of the state government’s Survey Records Modernisation Programme. It aims to geo-reference and update all registered layout surveys across the state.

According to a public notice signed by the Surveyor-General, Justus Chime, the project involves the revalidation and digitisation of every layout registered with the state. The goal is to create a reliable digital database that ensures accuracy in land ownership records, streamlines documentation and boosts internally generated revenue.

The government has set a compliance deadline of December 31, after which any layout that has not been revalidated will lose official recognition, meaning that such areas could be denied access to public infrastructure, title confirmations and other government services.

He urged all landowners, developers and registered surveyors to take the exercise seriously, stressing that “this is not just an administrative formality but a legal and strategic necessity.”

Nnam advised stakeholders to engage with the process through the Office of the Surveyor-General or their respective local government survey desks.

“This is a one-time opportunity to safeguard your titles, regularise ownership and align with global best practices in land administration. Enugu is setting a new standard and no one should be left behind,” he said.
