​Prof. Aina formally assumes office as JAMB Registrar

Professor Segun Aina has officially assumed office as the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second and final five-year tenure ended on July 31, 2026.

​A renowned Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Aina brings extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public sector reform to the nation’s tertiary admissions body. His appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to consolidate recent reforms that enhanced JAMB’s operational efficiency and transparency.

​Speaking on his appointment, Aina described the role as a call to national service, pledging to lead the examination body with integrity, fairness, and accountability.

​He declared a strict zero-tolerance policy against examination malpractice, warning compromised Computer-Based Test (CBT) center operators and fraudsters that enforcement will be intensified through advanced technology, thorough investigations, and legal action.

​”I assure Mr. President and the Nigerian public that I shall discharge this responsibility with integrity, fairness, diligence, and an unwavering commitment to the public good. To those who organize examination malpractice and compromise CBT centers, hear me clearly: your business is with the wrong institution. JAMB will continue to deploy every lawful, technological, administrative, and investigative measure available to detect, deter, and prosecute malpractice,”Aina stated.

Aina’s tie to the Board spans decades, having served his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) primary assignment at JAMB. Over the years, he has consulted for major assessment bodies—including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB)—driving digital transformation and systems optimization across Nigeria’s education sector.

​The new Registrar holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, UK, alongside a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He is an alumnus of the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School and a fellow/member of several professional bodies, including COREN, the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), IEEE, and the IET.
