On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu was welcomed by his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron during his historic visit to France.
Tinubu began his two-day visit to the foreign country as both nations seek increased economic cooperation, with Paris looking to boost ties in English-speaking Africa following a series of setbacks with former allies.
He was greeted by President Macron at the Invalides Memorial Complex, marking the first official state visit by a Nigerian leader in more than two decades.
The Nigerian leader was treated to the national anthems of both countries in the courtyard of one of Paris’ landmarks.

According to Macron, Tinubu’s visit is “an opportunity to deepen the already dynamic relationship between France and Nigeria”.
In a statement, President Tinubu’s office disclosed that Nigeria is looking to build ties in “agriculture, security, education, health, youth engagement, innovation and energy transition.”
Tinubu arrived in Paris on Wednesday evening and will alongside Macron address “shared values concerning finance, solid minerals, trade and investment, and communication.”
