The President of Nigeria Community in Cote D’Ivoire, Chief Onwuchelu Michael Emeka, is set to join the exclusive league of honorees of the West Africa Icon Award (WAIA) for 2024.
Chief Darlinghtyn Momoh Umoru, editor-in-chief, Elation Magazine, said the award is in recognition of Chief Emeka’s commendable contributions and recognisable achievements in curbing human trafficking and child prostitution which cannot be overemphasised.
According to Chief Umoru, former consultant to the Presidential Committee on Small Arms and Light Weapons, who also doubles as director of WAIA, “Chief Emeka has within three years of his administration as president collaborated with the Nigerian Embassy in Cote D’Ivoire, in rescuing over 860 Nigerian girls that were victims of human trafficking and child prostitution.”
He added that aside from rescuing those young girls, who would have dented the good image of the country, they have all been reunited with their family members in Nigeria.
“Since becoming president of the Nigerian community in the West Africa sub-region, it is on record that Chief Emeka has repositioned and increased the cultural values of Nigeria and Nigerians within his domain.
“Beyond his professional endeavours, the president is deeply engaged in community affairs, aside from playing a vital role in fostering unity, representing the interests of Nigerians in Cote D’Ivoire.”
Others expected to be honoured at he event slated for August 17 include former gubernatorial candidate of ANDP in Lagos State, Dr. Olusegun Musa, Delta State Civil Service chairman, Mrs. Roseline Amioku Eno, Senior Royal High Chief Iyadua Vincent Igietemho, Maritime player, Comptroller HK Ejibunu, Dr. Esther Uduehi, PDP BoT member, Marvelous Muizu Zibiri, chairman, Etsako West LGA, Mr. Fred Yoro, Permanent Secretary in Delta State, Mr. Paul Ejime and Dr. Chioma Amajoh.
