The Presidency has debunked viral claims that President Bola Tinubu sacked Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, insisting the police chief resigned voluntarily.

Egbetokun, whose tenure was extended by one year in 2025, tendered his resignation letter today, citing personal family reasons.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga told journalists at the Presidential Villa that a formal statement would follow shortly.

“Egbetokun resigned today. He was not sacked. A statement will be issued later,” Onanuga clarified.
