Premier League Stat: Iwobi dwarfs Mikel

Iwobi

Nigerian midfielder, Alex Iwobi became the Super Eagles player with the third-highest number of English Premier League appearances after featuring in Fulham’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at Craven Cottage, Soccernet.ng reports.

Iwobi has prominently featured in the Premier League for the last nine years since he made his debut for Arsenal.

He spent four seasons at the club until 2019 when he joined Everton.

The 27-year-old spent four seasons at Everton before leaving for Fulham last summer. And since he joined, he has been a regular for them.

This season, Iwobi has made 26 appearances for the Cottagers, and the latest was against Crystal Palace which ensured that he totalled 250 appearances in the Premier League, surpassing Mikel, who he was tied with on 249.

Iwobi started the game for Fulham, and was quite impressive towards the end of the first half. The Nigeria international eventually played the entire game. Rodrigo Muniz scored the solitary goal for the Cottagers, but Jeffrey Schlupp  scored the equalizer.

Iwobi registered 42 touches, a 75% pass accuracy, and two tackles in the game.

With his feat, Iwobi is just two games away from surpassing Yakubu Aiyegbeni, who registered 252 goals. However, Iwobi is still 49 games behind Shola Ameobi who has the highest number of appearances. Meanwhile, it is important to note that Mikel made all his 249 appearances at Chelsea.
