Pothole claims life of customs officer in fatal road crash

A 54-year-old Customs Officer, Prince Etteng Ise, has died in a  fatal accident along the Ikom–Calabar Highway.

The Cross River State Police Command said the crash occurred on Monday, 7th September 2026, at about 2:56 p.m. near Alesi Village in Ikom Local Government Area.

In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah  the Command said the victim, who was serving at Mfum Border in Etung LGA, reportedly lost control of his vehicle while attempting to avoid a pothole.

“The vehicle veered into the bush and collided with a tree. The victim was rushed to Holy Family Hospital, Ikom, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor. His remains were deposited at the hospital mortuary,” the statement said.

The Command commiserated with the deceased’s family, colleagues and the Nigeria Customs Service, and urged motorists to exercise caution  and remain vigilant while driving.
