As Nigerians continue to react to the news of the Port Harcourt Refinery coming alive and ready for production, the former commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism and Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Niger state Mr. Jonathan Vatsa has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for keeping his promise to Nigerians.
Vatsa said the news of the coming alive of the Refinery after many years of fruitless efforts by successful administration is a great relief to Nigerians, saying “the president promised December for the take of the Refinery and he has fulfilled it”
The former publicity secretary of the APC in the state in a statement in Minna on Saturday titled “let Nigerians keep faith with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu renewed hope Agenda” said that the president has fulfilled one of the major campaign promises of his administration and therefore urged Nigerians to keep with the government.
Vatsa pointed out that Nigerians were skeptical about the realization of the December deadline given by the President for the Port Harcourt Refinery because “we are just coming out of eight years of failed promises of former President Mohammadu Buhari”.
According to him the current hardship in the country was as a result of the removal of the fuel subsidy occasioned by the inability of the country to refined it’s crude oil, adding that “it is highly regrettable that as the sixth largest producer of crude oil in the world Nigeria could not boost of a functional Refinery.
“It is sad that a President who promised Nigerians one Refinery every year of his administration and publicly told the world that payment of fuel subsidy was a scam finished his eight years tenure without a single Refinery, and equally ended up paying the highest fuel subsidy in the history of Nigeria.
“That is why we must commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and keep faith with his administration renewed hope agenda”,
He added that what defines a good government in a democracy is it ability to keep it campaign promises with the electorates, stressing that “,that is what President Tinubu has done”.
The Special Adviser to the Niger State governor on Public Private Partnership (PPP) while urging the President to turn his searchlight to the Kaduna and Warri Refineries, warned that the government must be wary of saboteurs who never want anything to work in the country.
These saboteurs, he claimed are agents of the Western world who are ready to do anything to ensure that the country remain underdeveloped and continue to relied on foreign aids in the mix of abundant human and natural resources.
The outspoken APC Chieftain insisted that the current political and economic predicaments of the country can not be entirely blamed on our leaders, stressing that “after our independence they (west) have continue to manipulate our leaders and ensuring that we did not develop our enormous resources”.
He expressed disappointment that after over 60 years of independence, and with abundant resources, the country can not afford a hospital where her leaders can be treated, adding “and now we have crude oil but we can not refined it for our local consumption.
“What the country is going through is beyond our leaders and I believe our leaders know this. But it takes a leader with courage and the support of all well meaning Nigerians to get another political and economic independence from the west”.
