A 19-year old suspected leader of an armed robbery gang, one Destiny Okpako and two members of the squad have been arrested by a special squad of security operatives deployed by the Delta Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, to checkmate rising activities of hoodlums in Ughelli, Warri and Sapele areas of the state.

Okpako who hails from Oviri-Okpe in the state and his suspected accomplices including 23-years old Blessing Atima and 20-year old Wisdom Akpohirowho, both of Jesse town of Delta State, were arrested in Sapele by the operatives who acted on credible intelligence.

Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Bright Edafe confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Friday.

Edafe said one beretta pistol, one locally cut-to-size gun, three cutlasses, assorted phones and ATM cards were recovered from the suspects.

Saying that investigation was on going, he said some victims of the suspects have identified them and their recovered valuables, adding that the suspects confessed to have taken part in six of the armed robbery operations in Sapele.

Edafe also confirmed the arrest of one Usman Bello (40) who allegedly pretended to be mentally unstable, with a locally fabricated beretta pistol in an uncompleted building along Issele-Azagba expressway.

Besides, Edafe said acting on credible intelligence, arrested two suspects who specialized in breaking into shops in Asaba at night to cart away valuables.

The suspects, Amaechi Michael (42) from Rivers State and Ogochukwu Ogbode from Enugu State, according to Edafe, usually take their loot to Port Harcourt to sell after every successful mission.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that after breaking and looting the shops of their victims, they carried their loot to Port-Harcourt to sell. Investigation and efforts to arrest the receivers of these stolen items are ongoing,” he added.
