Police sanctions MOPOL team in viral cash handout video

Police officers accepting money from Chinese national montage

From Christopher Oji

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has initiated disciplinary action against officers filmed accepting money from a Chinese national in a viral video.

Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi condemned the officers’ actions as “unprofessional and unethical”, stating they violate the NPF’s ethics and core values.

“The Force has zero tolerance for such unprofessional behaviour and other forms of misconduct, which undermine public trust and confidence,” Adejobi said in a statement on April 16.

The officers, identified as Mobile Police (MOPOL) personnel led by DSP Aliyu Adejembi, were summoned to Force Headquarters in Abuja on 16 April for disciplinary proceedings.

The video, which surfaced on 15 April, showed them receiving ₦5,000 each while on escort duty in Kaduna for a Chinese mining company, AKK – Frontier Risk Management Nigeria Limited.

The NPF cautioned organisations against actions that degrade police integrity, warning that such acts bring disrepute to the Force.
