Security operatives have rescued the nine remaining passengers of the 14 abducted from a bus in Benue State recently.
The passengers were travelling from Enugu State to Abuja along the Ankpechi–Omutele axis of Ohimini Local Government Area of the state on the night of 13 August 2026, when they were abducted along the axis. The police said they successfully rescued five victims, including a four-year-old boy, while nine others remained in the custody of the suspected kidnappers.
According to a security source, security forces launched a night operation after the abduction of the bus passengers.
During the raid, the armed bandits fled the forest and abandoned the remaining victims in Amla-Cho Forest where they were rescued unharmed.
The source said the victims were given immediate medical attention before being conveyed back to their homes.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benue State Command, DSP Peter Aondongu confirmed the development, saying the victims were rescued on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
