Police rescue abducted victim in Imo forest

Operatives of the Imo State Police Command have rescued an abducted victim during a coordinated forest clearance operation in Owerri West Local Government Area.

The rescue was carried out on June 27, 2026, under the direct supervision of the Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Bosso. Police operatives, working with local vigilantes, combed the Nekede, Ihiagwa and Agbala axis following credible intelligence on criminal hideouts in the area.

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry, the operation was executed on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police. The directive was transmitted through the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-East Zone, DIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, as part of efforts to dismantle criminal camps and deny kidnappers safe havens across Imo State.

During the sweep, police rescued Chinonaobi Uchegbulam, male, of Ubaha Orodo, from a forest hideout. The victim was found injured and was immediately evacuated to a medical facility, where he is currently receiving treatment and is said to be responding positively.

CP Bosso commended the operatives for their “courage and professionalism” during the mission. He said the Command will sustain intelligence-led operations to ensure Imo State “remains unsafe for criminal elements.”

The Command also called on residents to support security efforts by reporting suspicious movements.

“Imolites are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or to the Command’s emergency line,” DSP Okoye stated.

He added that timely and credible information from the public remains critical to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.
