Operatives of the Kwara State Police Command have rescued the Onigbesi of Igbesi, Oba Moses Oyinloye, from a kidnappers’ hideout, five days after gunmen abducted him from his community in Isin Local Government.
The monarch, who was seized when armed men invaded Igbesi on August 22, was rescued on Wednesday by police operatives in the Kwara South axis and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Oro, Irepodun Local Government Area.
The operation was reportedly carried out by policemen from the Oro Division with the support of members of a local vigilance group.
Sources in the area said two other kidnap victims being held at the hideout were also rescued during the operation.
Confirming the monarch’s rescue, Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, said operatives successfully located the hideout and freed the traditional ruler.
“Yes, the Onigbesi has been rescued by the policemen from the kidnappers’ hideout. He’s receiving treatment at a hospital in Oro. This is all I can tell you for now,” Adekimi said.
Initial reports following the attack had indicated that some residents were abducted alongside the monarch, but the police commissioner subsequently clarified that Oba Oyinloye was the only person seized from Igbesi during the invasion.
His rescue ended five days of anxiety in Igbesi and neighbouring communities over his safety.
