The Niger State Police Command has recovered a military unexploded ordnance in Zugurma community in Mashegu Local Government Area of the state.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun disclosed this in a Tuesday statement.
The police spokesman disclosed that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ibbi Division Mashegu LGA, on Monday, January 5, 2026, lodged a report at about 2pm, which indicated that some locals in Zugurma community in Mashegu LGA sighted an object suspected to be a missile in the forest.
He said police operatives of the division moved to the scene and cordoned the area for safety.

Abiodun said the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, directed the EOD-CBRN unit of the command to the scene, and on Tuesday, January 6th, 2026, at about 6am, the EOD team led by CSP Mohammed Mamun mobilised to the location, where the police operatives of the division and the community members led the team to the scene.
“The EOD team rendered the device safe and recovered it to custody, before its onward movement to the State Police Headquarters, Minna,” the statement reads in part.
Abiodun said the device was identified as UXO missile or military unexploded ordinance which its source is yet unknown.
“Meanwhile, further investigation is ongoing and other developments will be made public.
“The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command urged members of the public to remain calm as all security agencies are working assiduously and making efforts to ensure that normalcy is restored in the identified areas of concern,” the statement further reads.
