The police in Lagos have recovered a motorcycle stolen by a man in army uniform along LASU-Iyana Iba Road.

The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the state police command recovered the motorcycle.

The RRS said the suspect, known as Away in the area, tricked a commercial motorcyclist identified as Henry into parting with the vehicle.

The RRS said, “Around 4:59 p.m. on Monday, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on patrol along LASU–Iyana Iba Road assisted a commercial motorcyclist, Henry, in recovering his stolen bike from a man dressed in army uniform.

“The suspect, popularly known as “Away” in the area, had on Saturday afternoon engaged Henry to convey him to several locations and eventually return him to Command Road, Ayobo, for a fare of ₦8,000.

“While returning to Ayobo around 10:00 p.m., the suspect took control of the motorcycle under the pretext of evading police arrest.

“At Iyana Iba New Road, Away instructed Henry to withdraw money for him from a POS operator, handing over a fake ATM card.

“While Henry was with the POS attendant, the suspect sped off with the motorcycle.”

The RRS said Henry, on Monday, spotted Away with the stolen bike at First Gate, Igbo–Elerin, along LASU–Iyana Iba Road.

“Fortunately, an RRS patrol team was nearby. On sighting Henry and the officers, the suspect, still in military uniform, abandoned the bike and fled the scene.

“The motorcycle has since been returned to Henry, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspect and ensure he faces the full consequences of his actions,” the RRS further stated.
