Gombe State Police Command has announced the recovery of 66 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp following an intelligence-led operation along the Kuri–Deba Road.

A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi said officers from  Deba Division acting on surveillance intelligence, intercepted an unregistered ash-coloured Toyota Corolla on Sunday night after reports indicated suspicious movements by unidentified occupants.

He  said the operatives arrived at the scene at about 9:30 pm, where three suspects were allegedly attempting to deliver the substance to an accomplice on a motorcycle.

The suspects reportedly abandoned the bags and fled on sighting the police. A search of the area led to the recovery of three sacks containing 66 compressed parcels of the suspected illicit drug. The exhibits have been secured as investigators work to track down the fleeing suspects.
