Police recover 210 rounds of ammunition dumped on Zaria–Funtua highway

From Noah Ebije, Kaduna

The Kaduna State Police Command has recovered 210 rounds of 7.56mm ammunition abandoned by fleeing suspects along the busy Zaria–Funtua highway.

According to the Command, the discovery was made on 25 November 2025, around 4:15 p.m., when the Divisional Police Officer of Samaru Division and his patrol team received a tip-off from members of the public.

This was contained in a statement signed by DSP Mansir Hassan, Police Public Relations Officer, Kaduna State Command.

Police said witnesses reported that occupants of a black Volkswagen Golf commercial vehicle suspiciously hurled a sack out of the moving car at the Dogo Itace axis in Samaru, Zaria.

“Officers raced to the scene and recovered the sack, which was found to contain the ammunition. The DPO immediately alerted neighbouring divisions along the route up to Funtua, border town of Katsina State with Kaduna, but the suspects managed to escape, largely due to the delay in relaying the initial information.

“Police believe the suspects panicked and dumped the ammunition after noticing the Command’s intensified motorised patrols and snap checkpoints across the state.

“Commissioner of Police CP Rabiu Muhammad, praised the public for the timely alert and urged residents to remain vigilant. He announced that a full-scale manhunt for the fleeing suspects is underway, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and the protection of lives and property.

“He also issued a stern warning to criminal elements: ‘Stay out of Kaduna State or face the full wrath of the law,” the statement added.
