The Cross River State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the alleged abduction of an 11-year-old boy in Edor Community, Ikom Local Government Area of the state.

The incident was reported at the Edor Police Outpost at about 10 p.m. on October 5, 2026, by Raphael Eyo, 57, who alleged that his son was taken by a 29-year-old man identified as Abasi John.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, disclosed this in a statement, saying the suspect allegedly took the boy under the pretext of helping him get home safely, but the child could not be accounted for afterwards.

According to the police spokesman, when contacted, the suspect reportedly claimed that he had dropped the boy in front of his father’s residence.

However, the following day, the father, accompanied by some community members, visited the suspect’s residence, where the missing boy was allegedly found in the suspect’s room with an injury to his head.

“The circumstances surrounding the injury are yet to be ascertained,” Eitokpah said.

He added that the suspect was subsequently arrested at the Edor Police Outpost and transferred to the Ikom Divisional Police Headquarters for further investigation.

The suspect remains in police custody pending the outcome of the investigation.

The police spokesman assured residents that the Commissioner of Police, Ajo Ordue, remained committed to protecting children and other vulnerable persons across the state.

He urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and promptly report cases of missing children to the police and other relevant security agencies.

Eitokpah said the case was being thoroughly investigated, assuring the public that further developments would be communicated as the investigation progressed.
