The Niger State Police Command has arrested 42-year-old Mohammed Aliyu Buba of Angwan Sarki, Sarkin Pawa, Munya Local Government Area, for allegedly producing fake National Identification Number (NIN) slips and voter cards.

Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, said the suspect was arrested by the command’s Tactical Support Team. He said 105 fake NIN slips and 189 fake voter cards were recovered.

According to him, the suspect confessed to producing fake documents for more than 1,000 people, charging ₦2,000 per NIN slip and ₦1,000 per voter card, earning over ₦3 million. He remains in custody as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, a pro-democracy group has begun distributing ₦25,000 to registered voters in Niger State.

The distribution is reportedly taking place across polling units in the 247 wards of the state’s 25 local government areas, with only holders of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) eligible.

It was gathered that members of the group request beneficiaries’ PVC numbers, telephone numbers, bank account details and photographs before crediting their accounts with ₦25,000.

Our correspondent witnessed one of the exercise points at the Police Barracks in Minna on Friday. A female member of the group, who declined to give her name, was seen collecting beneficiaries’ details before their accounts were credited.

While some residents declined the offer over fears that their PVCs could be compromised ahead of the 2027 general elections, others accepted and confirmed receiving the money.
