The Kwara State Police Command has arrested an alleged notorious cultist, Michael Ojoagbu, acting on an actionable intelligence by a team of its anti-cultism unit.

Police spokesman Okasanmi Ajayi made this disclosure in a statement in Ilorin late Wednesday evening.

According to him, the suspect, who has been on the anti-cult wanted list, was on a mission to carry out another gruesome attack on a target yet to be identified when he was traced and arrested at Ace Supermarket located in the Unity area of Ilorin on August 2 at about 1800 hours.

Ajayi recalled that Ilorin, the state capital, had witnessed some cult killings and counter-killings by opposing cult confraternities in recent times, adding that the ugly development had “unnecessarily heightened tension amongst residents of the state.”

The police spokesperson said:

“In an attempt to arrest the suspect, while also avoiding likely collateral damage in the process of the arrest, it was difficult to simultaneously arrest the other members of his gang who escaped, using customers of the supermarket as shields.

“Investigation of the matter is presently ongoing.

“One locally made pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from the suspect.”
