The Cross River State Police Command has launched a high-stakes joint operation to rescue at least 15 passengers abducted along the Calabar-Oron waterway.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Eitokpah Sunday, disclosed this in Calabar while providing an update on the incident.

According to him, “With respect to the alleged abduction of fifteen (15) passengers aboard a Sea Express boat en route from Calabar to Oron on Friday, Command is working in close synergy with the Akwa Ibom State Police Command and the Nigerian Navy.

“Coordinated search-and-rescue and tactical operations are currently ongoing to ensure the safe recovery of the victims and the swift apprehension of the perpetrators,” the PPRO said.

At least 15 passengers were abducted aboard a ferry along the Calabar-Oron waterway last Friday.

The waterway serves as an alternative for people travelling from Cross River to Akwa Ibom State who wish to avoid the perilous journey along the dilapidated Calabar-Itu Road.
