The Imo State Police Command says it has arrested two suspected terrorists and dislodged a hideout linked to the foiled attack on Agwa Police Division in Oguta Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, 17 September 2026.
According to Okoye, the breakthrough followed investigations into the attack on Agwa Division on 21 August 2026, during which a notorious kingpin identified as Chiemela, alias “Disaster”, was neutralised.
He said subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Happiness Uche, 32, of Ubah Agwa, and Jones Okechukwu Anyim, 29, of Umuokijo Mgbala Agwa, both in Oguta LGA.
Okoye stated that Anyim was arrested on 15 September at about 4:20 pm following information and confessions obtained from Uche.
He said operatives, in collaboration with the DPO of Agwa Division, thereafter stormed a suspected IPOB/ESN camp at Ubah Agwa.
“On sighting the police operatives, the hoodlums opened fire but were swiftly overpowered by the superior firepower of the police, forcing them to flee. Some of the fleeing suspects are believed to have sustained gunshot injuries,” Okoye said.
A search of an abandoned uncompleted bungalow at the location led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle with no visible identification number and two magazines loaded with 52 rounds of live ammunition, one hand grenade, four military uniforms, five police uniforms bearing name tags, six Biafra-regalia uniforms, three ESN-marked uniforms and four ESN-marked berets, three Biafra flags and various ATM cards believed to belong to victims, currencies bearing Biafran inscriptions, foreign currencies, enlarged photographs of an unidentified person and objects suspected to be ritual materials.
The police spokesman said the hideout has been dislodged and secured, while efforts are ongoing to track the fleeing suspects.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, commended the operatives for their courage and professionalism and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information to the police.
Okoye said the arrested suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
