The office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 17, Akure, Ondo State, has invited the traditional ruler of Ayetoro-Ekiti in Ekiti State, Oba Olufisan Ajayi Samuel, for questioning over the alleged vandalisation and theft of seven transformers in the community.
The invitation followed a petition submitted by a legal practitioner, Mr. Iyiola Afolabi, accusing the monarch of alleged conspiracy and complicity in the theft of the transformers.
A letter of invitation dated July 21, 2026, and signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration, Abimbola Abdulraheem, on behalf of the AIG, directed the monarch to appear before the Officer-in-Charge of Surveillance 1 at the Zone 17 headquarters in Akure.
According to the letter, the police are investigating a complaint in which the monarch’s name featured, making it imperative for investigators to obtain clarification from him.
A copy of the petition obtained by Daily Sun alleged that Oba Olufisan was complicit in the vandalisation and receipt of the seven transformers reportedly stolen from various locations in Ayetoro-Ekiti.
The petition was lodged on behalf of Messrs. Dayo Ogunsanmi, Shola Aderemi and Folorunsho Oni, who alleged that the transformers were unlawfully removed from the community.
The petition further recalled that a similar complaint had been submitted to the AIG, Zone 17, in 2022 over the disappearance of the seven transformers.
According to Mr. Afolabi, the police investigated the matter at the time and allegedly directed those implicated to return the transformers to their original locations.
He, however, alleged that despite the police intervention, the seven transformers have yet to be returned, nearly four years after the initial investigation, prompting the renewed petition and the latest police invitation to the monarch.
The police have yet to make any official statement on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
