The police disclosed that the petitioner had alleged conflicting accounts regarding the cause of the death of her daughter, adding that while the school authorities had stated that she died of an asthma attack, other testimonies received by the family suggested that she was punished by some senior students- through flogging and forced prolonged kneeling for refusing to sweep, a situation which they claimed worsened her condition.
The police announced that the panel would invite three teachers (one male and two females), three senior female students and two other female witnesses for interviews, adding that medical forensic processes were also on-going.
The police assured the public that it would conduct a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation and make the findings public, while adding that anyone found culpable would be made to face the law.
The deceased passed away on June 13 in the Catholic Church- ran – elite- secondary school, and was confirmed dead at the International Clinic, Kano, where she was rushed to after she had slumped in the hostel.
