Barely 48 hours after gunmen shot and killed a police inspector, Bala Mohammed, attached to a member of the House of Representatives in Umuahia, Abia State, the men of the underworld struck again on Wednesday, killing at least one policeman and injuring another.

Wednesday’s attack occurred in Ugwu Abba, Asaga Ohafia, in the Ohafia Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that the gunmen, who struck at a police checkpoint in the area, opened fire on the policemen on duty, killing one officer, whose identity could not be immediately ascertained, on the spot.

Another policeman on duty was reportedly seriously wounded in the attack.

The gunmen were said to have fled unchallenged after the attack, causing apprehension in the area.

Details of the incident, which sparked panic across both communities, were still sketchy as police in the state had yet to issue a statement on the attack.
