The Rivers State Police Command has paraded a witch doctor and 25 other suspects said to be responsible for snatching of cars in the State.
State Commissioner of Police,Olatunji Disu, while parading the suspects at the Police headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, on Wednesday, said the suspects, Chidube, Anthony and Kelechi were major culprits in car snatching business.
Disu disclosed that Chidube trains his men on car snatching and he is linked to all suspects arrested, while Kelechi is an expert in removing trackers and a wonderful mechanic.
The Rivers Police Chief stated that most of the cars stolen were taken to Kano and Anambra States where they pieced and sold them as scrap.
He disclosed that 79 stolen cars were linked to the suspects and also revealed that most of the suspects met in correctional centre.
On their modus of operandi, CP Disu said the suspects used master key to snatch vehicles and converted them to commercial vehicles and drove out of town with passengers to beat security check.
Disu said the command also arrested receivers of the vehicles who came into town with the robbers and told them the kinds of cars to be stolen.
He said: “Their witch doctor has been arrested. He tells them when is safe to go for operation.
“They also have team of robbers who fellows you when you go to bank. When you resist them, they attack and fire you.Their fire arms have been recovered.
“Residents should put safety devices in their vehicles and be watchful.”
Disu added that 17 stolen cars have been recovered so far and some returned to the owners.
