The Delta State Police Command said it has taken into custody the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, alongside three other suspects as investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Deputy Director in the state Ministry of Secondary Education, Mr Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, continues.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, SP Bright Edafe disclosed this in a Monday night statement.
Edafe said this brings the number of persons currently in police custody in connection with the investigation to five.
He added that the command has consequently launched a manhunt for the two key suspects, Mrs Clemetine Ufuoma, Director of Basic and Secondary Education, and Clement Apia, driver to the Commissioner for Secondary Education, whose presence is required in furtherance of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, urged the two suspects, wherever they may be, to make themselves available to the police without further delay.
The CP reiterated that the investigation would be pursued thoroughly, impartially and professionally.
He assured the family of the deceased and members of the public that due process would be followed and anyone found culpable brought to justice in accordance with the law.
“The command’s heartfelt condolences go to the deceased family,” the statement further reads.
Adeda reportedly died following an incident at the Examinations and Records Department of the Ministry of Secondary Education, amid allegations that he was assaulted by some persons allegedly linked to the now-detained commissioner.
