Police confirm release of 20 abducted NYSC members in Imo

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the rescue of the 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members abducted in Imo State.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, said the victims were rescued on 7th October 2026 at Amakohia Ubi Village, Imo State, following sustained search-and-rescue operations.

The corps members were abducted on 1st October 2026 while travelling from Ibadan, Oyo State, to orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom States. They were attacked near Umunoha in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.

According to the police, the victims have been taken for medical assessment and necessary care.

The Force said efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the abduction, adding that coordinated operations have been sustained to bring all culpable persons to justice.

“The Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with sister security agencies, has rescued the 20 prospective NYSC corps members abducted in Imo State on 1st October 2026,” the statement read.

The police appreciated members of the public for their cooperation and support, reiterating its commitment to the protection of lives and property and prompt response to security threats.
