The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the killing of seven worshipers in a mosque located at Saya-Saya village in Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Earlier reports indicated that the bandits had trailed a member of Kaduna State Vigilance Service to the mosque while pretending to be worshippers for several hours before striking at 8:pm on Friday night when the villagers were performing Isha’i (sunset) prayers.
The unfortunate development led to the untimely death of seven persons – five of whom were gunned down right inside the mosque while the two others were killed at different spots outside the mosque.
The Village Head, Abdulrahaman Yusuf, said that the head of vigilante in the village was among the victims of the latest bandits’ attack.
Yusuf told a source that “we suspected they traced him (vigilante boss) to the mosque to attack him. We were inside the mosque praying when they arrived and started shooting.
“Five persons were killed in the mosque while a driver who brought food items to the village was also killed. The other per- sons were killed at a nearby village.”
Confirming the incident via his mobile phone on Saturday, September 2, acting spokesman for the state police command, ASP Mansir Hassan, regretted that the affected community did not reach out to security agents early until after the damage was done
