Police confirm 7 dead, 5 injured in Abia auto crash

Abia police command has confirmed that seven persons died and five others were injured in an auto accident which happened at Ukpakiri village, near Aba, Abia State, along the Ikot Ekpene Highway.

It was gathered that a Sienna Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), operated by Akwa Ibom Integrated Transport had a head-on collision with a tipper lorry loaded with sharp sand, resulting in the death of seven passengers on board the SUV.

The accident equally left five persons seriously injured and we’re immediately rushed to the hospital.

Confirming the incident in a statement, the command’s PPRO, Maureen Chinaka said the accident “happened at Ukpakiri village along Ikot Ekpene Road in Obingwa LGA.

“Seven unidentified persons died, and five sustained injuries.

“The scene of the accident has been visited, corpses deposited at the mortuary, injured persons rushed to the hospital, and exhibits recovered to the police station.

“Investigation is ongoing”, the statement added.
