Police ban protest in Kano, read riot act to politicians

The Kano State Police Command has banned all forms of street protests across the State.

In  a public announcement signed by the state  Commissioner of police, Mr.  Muhammad Usaini Gumel, yesterday, he State  that the ban was of  immediate effect.

According to him,” It has come to our knowledge, that  the All Progressive Congress (APC),and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)  members are currently mobilizing, renting  crowd in the guise of Civil Society Coalition , without clearance from the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress,and without prior approval from security agencies in the state.

“Both organizers as well as the umbrella body should note that any attempt to disrespect the  NLC and security agencies in the state, by playing around the fragile security situation, which the combined security agencies have been managing, is not only uncivil, criminal, but also an offence against national security”

He explained  that investigation conducted by the  police revealed that some members of both  political parties, were  influencing the members of the civil society to embark on the protest as a result of their own apprehensions and in an attempt to  pre-empt the judgement of the election Tribunal”.

He expressed imnense gratitude to residents of the state  for the enormous support and cooperation the  police  have   been enjoying from them .
