The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a criminal gang specialising in snatching mobile phones and motorcycles in Ibadan and across three states.
The suspects, Timilehin Idowu, 23, and Kudus Agoeo, 25, were arrested following credible intelligence that led police operatives to raid a residence in the Onirerin-Mokola area of Ibadan.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, describing the arrest as a significant step in dismantling street robbery and motorcycle snatching networks within the Ibadan metropolis and beyond.
According to the command, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects operate as a three-man gang, using a motorcycle to carry out robberies in Ibadan and Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The suspects reportedly confessed to the crime and provided useful information indicating that the gang’s activities extend across Oyo, Osun and Lagos States, including details of other individuals involved in the network and those responsible for disposing of stolen items.
The command said investigators were pursuing leads to verify the information, apprehend other members of the gang and recover stolen property, while the arrested suspects remain in custody and are cooperating with investigators.
Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and appreciated members of the public for their cooperation, urging residents to provide credible information to assist in crime prevention.
The command urged residents to report suspicious activities via the Oyo State Call Response Centre Toll-Free Line 615 or the Command Control Room on 08081768614 and 07055495413.
