Police arrest three over murder of Kano mother and six children

Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have arrested three suspects over the murder of a 35-year-old housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano.

The deceased were murdered on January 17, while the youngest baby was thrown into a well.

A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on Sunday listed the suspects as Umar Auwalu, aged 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters, Kano; Isyaku Yakubu, aged 40, of Sagagi Quarters, Kano; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, aged 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters, Kano.

The statement disclosed that they were arrested during a sting operation that lasted between 10 p.m. on 17 January 2026 and 4 a.m. on 18 January 2026.

The leader of the gang, Umar Auwalu, who is a nephew of the deceased woman, has confessed to the crime, the statement said.

He also admitted that the same gang had been responsible for a series of gruesome killings and attacks in the recent past, including the killing and burning of two housewives at Tudun Yola Quarters, Kano, the statement added.

Items recovered from the suspects included four items of clothing with blood stains, the deceased’s two mobile phones, a cutlass, a club (gora), some amount of money robbed at the scene, as well as other dangerous weapons.

The police said that the investigation was in progress while assuring the public of its commitment to bringing the perpetrators of crimes to justice.
