From Tony John, Port Harcourt

The Rivers State Police Command has made significant progress in the investigation into the disappearance of Sampson Worianime, who was reported missing on 11 November 2025, with the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of his corpse.

The police said Worianime had accompanied youth from his Ogbogbo community in Okrika Local Government Area to measure land at their old settlement.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday, said the command conducted discreet intelligence gathering after the victim’s mother reported her son’s disappearance to the police.

Iringe-Koko disclosed: “Following a distressing petition by the victim’s mother, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) launched an investigation, leveraging intelligence-led policing, leading to the arrest of two suspects, including one Igwe Alex ‘m’ 26 years old, the CSO of Aleto-Eleme Community, and John Mikel ‘m’ 24 years old, all of Aleto Eleme.”

She said that, during a preliminary investigation, the suspects confessed to abducting two youths from Okrika, including the victim; one escaped, while Worianime was killed by the suspects and his body dumped into a nearby river.

“The suspects led police operatives to the location where the corpse was buried, and the remains of the deceased were recovered from a shallow grave.”

The command’s spokesperson added that the suspects are currently in police custody, cooperating with the team of investigators.

According to her, efforts are underway to apprehend other accomplices in the crime.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, CP OluGbenga Adepoju, has directed a thorough investigation to ensure that all perpetrators of the heinous crime are made to face the full wrath of the law.

He assured members of the public of the command’s commitment to justice and urged citizens to provide any information that may aid the ongoing investigation.
