The Plateau State Police Command has arrested the suspected mastermind of the deadly attack on Bin-Per community in Kombun District of Mangu Local Government.
More than 24 persons were killed while four others sustained injuries in the attack, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the arrest yesterday, saying the suspect was believed to have masterminded the attack.
Alabo said investigations into the incident were ongoing, while security operatives had launched a manhunt for other suspected attackers who fled the scene.
He urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist in apprehending the fleeing suspects and preventing further attacks.
The attack triggered widespread outrage, with residents, community leaders and other stakeholders demanding urgent measures to protect vulnerable communities across Mangu from further killings.
Women in the district had staged a peaceful protest over the killings, calling for urgent government action to safeguard residents from further attacks.
The victims of the attack were subsequently given a mass burial.
The Plateau State Government also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.
Following the incident, the military high command moved into the area and established a tactical command to stem the rising attacks in Mangu and its environs.
Security stakeholders have continued to stress the need for stronger collaboration, intelligence sharing and coordinated operations among security agencies to prevent further attacks and restore lasting peace to the affected communities.
